Peter Doig

I despise labeling, and therefore limiting, an artwork according to its specific era, be it a painting, film, writing or music. As an artist, you should never label your own style and work by trying to follow blindly the characteristics that already exists in historical artworks or its period. Labeling is for personal pleasures of certain audiences, as it is in our nature to enjoy finding similarities in things and categorize. Artists are obliged to deconstruct and innovate with senses that are raw and primitive. Peter Doig is one of the best examples that I know of an artist who stands alone.
